Turning 43

I’ll turn 43 on Friday. My Dad always said 44 is the perfect age. I can see why he said that.

I was offered a new job yesterday. Taking a break from work in the middle of life seemed absurd. When I told people I quit my job they just looked dumbstruck. I broke the rules. I went off script. I risked. I listened.

It worked. It really worked. God was faithful. The time off has been renewing. Our family re-grouped a bit, caught our breath. I was able to slow down enough to hear the nudging of the Spirit.

At this point my biggest goal for a job is to have maximum time with the family. Not that I don’t care about the job, but I want to be home more. This isn’t just altruistic. My soul grows hanging out at home. I need that space to listen. I don’t do well rushed and hurried. I can’t hear. I can’t be present to those I love.

So heading towards 44, I feel light in spirit. I feel at home in my soul. I feel like one of the luckiest people on earth. I have two girls who brighten each day. I have a husband who adores me. I have parents who love me. I have friends who stay with me on this wild adventure. I have a God who has big dreams for me. I am so loved. Life is good.

Happy birthday, 2 weeks late.

(You don't know me - I'm one of Bob's emergent acquaintences -I had read him for a while, and we met in person in San Diego in Feb - and found your blog through his.)

Anyway,I really recommend the age of 43! It's been great for me. I pray that your 43rd year is as good as mine.

About Me

Hmmm...Who am I? let's see the facts first. I'm 48 years old, married to my high school sweet heart, Bob. I I'm a mess most of the time, but everyone always thinks I really have it together. I love to listen to people and hear their stories. Art and writing are my spiritual practices. I deeply believe in god and that god is love. My theology is wide and constantly changing. When I was 18 I wrote out 4 pages single spaced on spiritual questions I had about life. I'm not sure I've answered any of them.
