Body and Spirit

I've been thinking alot about marrige lately. I think it's because Bob and I have actually had a good deal of time together over the past couple of months.

Actually to be truthful I've been thinking about sex and marriage. A topic that is rarely discussed especially in Christian circles.

Bob and I were both totally worn out on Sunday. We skipped half of church and sat in the park and talked. We were both frustrated with each other. It was a rather circular convesation. You don't understand me....I try so much harder...the usual circular conversation. Luckily, we stopped at some point and agreed that we could at least meet at feeling underappreciated. We made it back into church in time to share a good chuckle over the barbershop quartet communion singers.

The rest of the day we spent of the day doing house chores. As we went to bed we were both tired. We both apologized for the ugly words earlier in day. And then almost magically our tired bodies said what our words couldn't say. We moved out of our separateness into communion and met at the altar of one another; we were tranformed.

The next day I felt renewed and blessed. What an awesome God who created us...the earthy us ....the body. Our western culture desperately pushes a wedge between body and spirit. Ours is an earthy faith...body and blood. Separating body from spirit is denying the deep creative force to be co-creators with God.

isn't that the best? that one flesh thing that happens is too much for words sometimes.

btw - thanks so much for your comments on my blog - i was out of town and missed all of the hoopla! i really appreciate your support and knowing that i'm not alone in feeling the frustration of a comment like that.

About Me

Hmmm...Who am I? let's see the facts first. I'm 48 years old, married to my high school sweet heart, Bob. I I'm a mess most of the time, but everyone always thinks I really have it together. I love to listen to people and hear their stories. Art and writing are my spiritual practices. I deeply believe in god and that god is love. My theology is wide and constantly changing. When I was 18 I wrote out 4 pages single spaced on spiritual questions I had about life. I'm not sure I've answered any of them.
